I got a bit freaked out by getting a flat tyre on the back road between Ohariu Valley and Makara on my way from bringing Amy back from her riding lesson. It was getting dark. Fortunately a kind man stopped and basically did 90% of the work of changing the tyre. I haven't done one since I learned to drive at age 17, and I certainly would have taken a very long time to do that on my own. Actually I don't think I'd have been strong enough to loosen off the bolts on the tyre. And I didn't have a proper torch - note to self.
It made me realise just how un-self sufficient I am in a practical crisis.
